50% of American will experience some form of dizziness in their lifetimes. A call to your physician will reveal that nothing serious is going on, and you may receive the diagnosis of “vertigo”, but what does that really mean?

Vertigo is a sense of spinning that can accompany hundreds of conditions. It is a symptom, not a diagnosis. Unfortunately, saying “you have vertigo” is the equivalent of saying “you have a cough” the question is what's causing the cough, is it pneumonia or a common cold. With vertigo, is it a simple case of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) or a complicated case of labrynthitis? Is it benign or is it serious?

When dizziness and vertigo is involved, a little extra detective work will make all the difference in the world. The inner ear (vestibular system) is one of the largest culprits of vertigo, and can easily be diagnosed and treated by a trained professional.

Vestibular and balance experts need to utilize infrared video goggles, and computerized balance systems to accurately diagnose your “vertigo” and successfully treat it. In the case of BPPV, relief can occur in as little as a few minutes.
